Hi, I’m a little over 2 months old now and have been living and learning this whole time.
And smiling. Smiling is great. Why don’t people smile more?
World Cup’s just started and I’m all kitted up and ready for it. Nice of them to program the games to give mum and dad something to do while I eat.
Well it’s been a while since I updated my site (I was going to do an update for the world cup but, well, the less said about that the better) but things were going along pretty much routine until last week when WE WENT TO THE SNOW!!!!!!
Oh yeah, a nice long car trip where I could practice my screaming in a confined space followed by a short visit with my mate Kees on the farm. Life in the country is not that different. Same shit, new nappy, just like home. Except the darkness. Real darkness…at night it is both quiet and dark. At home it is never either.
Next day it was off to the snow. We all went to Thredbo this year but dad says I’ll graduate to perisher when I get a bit better. Had a bit of a go on the skis and snowboard, which is an achievement as I can’t walk, or even stand, as yet. House was fun, full of people. More fun than posing for the pictures, but, oddly, not as picturesque.
Here I am, almost 9 months, 9.5kg and loooooooooong. There were some thoughts that I was going to be a midget like mummy but despite a slow start, evidently I’m now going to more like dad. Here in Hong Kong People Call me "Huge Baby"
I’m going well and keeping everyone very busy and tired. Lately I’ve gotten into a habit of waking between 4:30am to 5:30am. I like it because it’s completely dark and completely quiet. Sooo quiet that when I cry very loudly, I give mummy a heart attack and I can hear people running towards my room. Heh heh heh.
I’m rolling now and I’m very good at it! Importantly, I’ve learned to stop rolling into the bars on my cot, hitting my head then crying for help. Yes....only babies do that! And I’m not a baby anymore! And I know that if I can’t reach something, I just roll a few times and suddenly it’s within reach! And if that doesn’t work, usually thumping on the floor plus some whinging will.
What’s more, I’ve discovered that with a little bit of co-ordination between my arms, knees and legs....and a lot of brute strength, I can actually paddle myself forward, combat style. It helps if I can grab onto something and just pull myself or if I create a bit of friction and paddle with my sticky/sweaty HUGE hands on the plastic play mat. It also helps if I grunt.....ALOT!
The edge of the play mat is the favourite place that I like to go to – it’s like a whole new world outside the play mat. I wonder what lies beyond?? And when I get there, I can rip the pieces of play mat apart, bite/chew on them and then toss them around like kites. Usually that gets me some attention and all of the sudden, I’m airborne and placed back onto the centre of the play mat. That’s ok.....I can do it ALL OVER AGAIN!
Once I get this tricky co-ordination thing going (apparently it’s called “crawling”), there’ll be no stopping me!!! Ha ha! Today the play mat – tomorrow the World!
I love to stand and jump all the time but Mummy says that if I get a desk job like her one day, I will spend 2/3 of my adult life sitting on my arse so might as well start learning. So I’ve been practising sitting. It’s a fine balancing act requiring patience and skills. Much harder than I thought especially when I try to reach, grab and play with toys. One moment I’m steady as a rock, next moment I pick up a tiny little ball that weighs like a feather and >CRASH< the weight tips me over!
Anyway, mummy, daddy and I have just moved from the sunny Sydney to Hong Kong. Life is very different here. It’s humid and I sweat. People speak different languages called Cantonese and Mandarin....apparently I have a Chinese name called Wing Saan which might come in useful one day. I look different to everyone here and I get a lot of attention (and hugs and kisses from complete strangers). All in all, I’m pretty happy.
So...it’s See ya Sydney and Hello Hong Kong..
Well, I’ve been around for a year now and things are going well. Got a little car for my birthday. It’s red so it’s fast. Hope the olds get me another one when I’m 17. Also my grand parents and Uncle Leonard flew into Hong Kong for my birthday which was nice.
I’ve been walking around and bumping into things for a couple of months, but now, I rarely face plant into the floor. Every now and then we go to the park where the floor is covered in this stuff called grass. It’s green and uneven and soft and weird. I don’t get it. It doesn’t even taste good.
I’ve been reading some books. These are also a bit weird…there are pictures of houses that don’t look like real houses and trains that were retired before my grandparents were born. Honestly it’s just confusing and not really assisting with my adjustment to the modern world.
My alphabet books have things like “X is for Xylophone” which is also far from helpful. Also, is it just me, or does the alphabet song seriously sample the baby rock classic “twinkle twinkle little star” ?
The farm books are cool though, with their cows and sheep and chickens and ducks, which are all very tasty.
Every Saturday dad tortures me by taking me to swimming classes. I torture him back by screaming at him from very close range. For an hour. Non stop. For an hour. It’s a thing we do.
Anyway, now I’ve settled in a bit hope to update this a bit more often, so, till next time, enjoy the pics…..
Oh, by the way, I’m actually somewhere between 9 months and 1 year in the pics.
